Wilfred Owen Window
Birkenhead Central Library, Birkenhead, Wirral

A letter from Peter J Owen, nephew of Wilfred Owen - following the unveiling of the window:

Wilfred Owen Window

Dear Sir,

I can hardly find the words to express my thanks to the Birkenhead Arts Association for the stained glass window to my uncle, Wilfred Owen. Words such as inspiring and tragic come to mind but perhaps magnificent best describes my initial impression, an impression that grew in me each time I looked at and through the stained glass. I can see it now, and will forerver, as a bold but beautiful image of Wilfred's poems designed and crafted to warn of war and its total waste.

You were fortunate to have found such an artist as David Hillhouse to design with so much expression and a craftsman like William Davis to move it into glass with such great sympathy. It will always be an evening that I shall remember.

Yours sincerely
Peter J Owen
