PATCHINGS COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION
Patchings Art Centre, Oxton Road, Calverton, Nottinghamshire, UK. 5 June - 13 July 2008
David has won an Award in the 2008 The Artist Magazine Patchings Competition and Exhibition. This is for his painting "Boy Adam" which is portrayed among other boats moored in St Ives harbour. It is one of a series of paintings produced by David Hillhouse after temporary residence in the town since 2000. He has been responsible for the exhibitions of The National Acrylic Painters' Association in the Mariners Gallery, just visible among the background rooftops. The fascination of the subject is the variety of colours, shapes and textures. Compositions change constantly with tides and Cornish light and weather. It is painted on a white gesso panel in egg tempera using a technique similar to water colour, without using white pigment allowing the ground to illuminate the brilliant purity of egg tempera. David Hillhouse is a member of the Society of Tempera Painters.
This "Derwent" Award is presented by Derwent Art Materials.
